A Statement from Salaam Islamic Center Regarding the Devastating Attack at the Islamic Center of San Diego

The Salaam Islamic Center is deeply saddened by the terrible and violent assault that took place at
the Islamic Center of San Diego, which resulted in the deaths of innocent people who had gathered
to worship, among them a security guard who bravely put himself in harm’s way to shield others from danger.

We offer our most heartfelt and sincere sympathies to the families of those who lost their lives,
to the congregation and community of the Islamic Center, and to every individual whose life has
been touched by this senseless act of hatred and violence.

We stand firmly alongside those who were harmed by this horrific event and express our unwavering
support for the community of the Islamic Center of San Diego. We reaffirm and renew our dedication
to the values of compassion, dignity, and mutual respect, as well as our belief in the fundamental
importance of safeguarding every human life and ensuring that all places of worship remain safe and protected.

Hatred and violence cannot and should not be met with more of the same. The path forward for our
communities lies in choosing empathy over anger, unity over division, and in finding the strength
and determination to build a society rooted in genuine understanding and the peaceful coexistence.

We hold the victims and their loved ones in our thoughts and prayers, and we extend those prayers
to every member of the broader San Diego community as they navigate this painful period of mourning
and work toward healing together.
