Statement from Salaam Islamic Center on the 250th Anniversary of American Independence

As our nation commemorates 250 years of independence, Salaam Islamic Center joins our fellow Americans in celebrating this remarkable milestone. This Semiquincentennial is a moment to reflect not only on the founding ideals of liberty and self-governance, but on the ongoing promise of America as a nation where people of every faith, background, and tradition can worship freely, contribute fully, and belong completely.

As American Muslims, we are grateful for the freedoms enshrined in our Constitution — freedoms that allow our community to gather, to pray, and to serve our neighbors openly. These 250 years have been a story still being written, one shaped by the contributions of generations of immigrants, people of faith, and communities striving toward a more perfect union. We are proud to be part of that ongoing story.

At Salaam Islamic Center, alongside serving the spiritual needs of our Muslim community, we have always prioritized the well-being of the broader American society we call home. Whether by providing food assistance to neighbors in need regardless of faith or race, distributing “Back to School” backpacks to local students, fostering deep interfaith relationships through dialogue and reciprocal visits, or stepping up to serve our community during devastating wildfires, we strive to live out our faith through meaningful action and service.

On this landmark anniversary, Salaam Islamic Center reaffirms our commitment to the values we share with all Americans: compassion, justice, service to community, and care for one another. We look forward to continuing to build bridges of understanding with our neighbors of all faiths, and to honoring this nation’s founding principles through our daily work of faith, solidarity, and service.

May God bless the United States of America, and may the next 250 years be marked by even greater unity, compassion, and justice for all.
