Is there a conflict between Islam and Science? Does Islam encourage scientific inquiry? If so, how?

Professor Aydin is a professor of mathematics at Kenyon College in Ohio. He holds a PhD in Mathematics and an MS in Computer Science from The Ohio State University.
His primary area of research is algebraic coding theory. He is also interested in theoretical computer science, mathematics education, and history and philosophy of mathematics and science.
He teaches a wide range of mathematics and computer science courses at Kenyon College. Professor Aydin leads a long term research program in coding theory with Kenyon students. Professor Aydin has many international collaborators from various countries. He published numerous articles in the areas of coding theory, cryptography, computer science, math education, and history of mathematics. His interest in the history of mathematics and sciences in the Islamic world led him to learn Arabic and undertake a big translation project, which resulted in the publication of a multi-volume book.
Outside academic work, he enjoys playing and watching soccer and has a great interest in meteorology.
